A bespoke Powdertech Evolution powder coating provides the refurbished West Wickham Library with a striking new look, and one which will be durable for many years.
The project involved redeveloping West Wickham Library into a modern community facility incorporating an art gallery, café, business lounge and space for hire.

The architects required a contemporary feel to the extension of the first floor of the library and one which would harmonise with the original terracotta shade of the original brick work.
As a public facility, all materials used need to be long-lasting and to require minimal maintenance. The architectural finishes used by Powdertech are all highly durable with excellent colour stability. They protect metal surfaces from corrosion and abrasion and remain looking smart for many years. All that is needed in terms of maintenance is a wash down with water every 6-12 months. We offer up to 25-year guarantees on our finishes with an expected life span of 40 years.
The designers were very particular about the shade to be used for the metal finish on the façade and all external aluminium structures and had a very specific green-grey shade in mind. We created four bespoke shades, in our Evolution range, in order to achieve the exact colour required. This can best be seen on the library sign in the images. Evolution finishes reflect the effect of natural patination on aged metal and work well against older brick work, such as that of the existing library building.
We coated folded aluminium façade panels, flashings, column casings and the library sign. These were made by Proteus Facades, Helmet and GAC Contracts and totalled over 1000 sq metres of metal.

With 40 years’ experience as an architectural powder coater, you can rely on Powdertech’s unrivalled experience and knowledge.
